DuraBraze provides a very low cost treatment for tungsten carbide parts that are to be brazed onto a steel substrate. We provide this carbide treatment service to the woodworking, metalworking, construction, mining or any other industry that brazes carbide.
Tungsten carbide can be a very difficult material to braze. Generally the problem of getting a good braze joint is due to oxides and other contaminants on the carbide surface. In most cases, applying flux alone is not enough to prepare the surface for brazing. Some people try sand blasting the carbide. Some try roughing the surface with a grinding wheel, while others use caustic solvents to make the carbide braze.
DuraBraze offers a better solution to braze preparation. We are one of only two companies in the world that can offer a process to enrich the carbide surface with cobalt. Unlike many other treatments, this is not another coating process. Coatings are unreliable and potentially dangerous. DuraBraze's process is a surface modification, therefore there is no coating to peel away, thus causing joint failure. The DuraBraze process insures full wettability of the braze joint and improves joint strength.
